Take Time Tuesday #5

Happy Tuesday to all, and time for another edition of Take Time Tuesday!

Live Half Full

Today, I am grateful for:
  • A wonderful husband, friends, and family who support me unconditionally, as always.
  • The incredible Chicago Running Blogger network and all of my amazing blogger friends, all of whom I've so enjoyed getting to know over time, and who are always there with words of encouragement and advice.
  • Being so used to waking up early now that getting up at 5:45 AM for a race or run is no longer a big deal (or at least is a less big deal than it used to be)
Source: Harvard Business Review (July-August 2010) pg. 31
(This seems surprisingly tilted towards morning people...?)

  • Having a terrific time at the Wisconsin Half Marathon this past weekend and getting to spend some great times with Katie, Lauren, Kayla, Sierra, and Kim; and getting to catch up with Erin a bit during packet pickup.
  • Seeing visible progress in my training.  These days I am able to do a 2-minute plank with reasonable ease - which used to be incomprehensible to me!
  • A four-week period now without any races to focus on, thus giving me the opportunity to let loose a little bit with my training.
  • Having so much fun experimenting with fashion and really defining my own style over the last few months, thanks to the inspirations of Erin.
  • Frozen deep-dish pizza.  Available in a pinch when the craving hits, which it did over the weekend, big-time.  Let's call it PREPS (post-race eating pizza syndrome).

  1. I think I have suffered from PREPs as well. Sometimes it lasts for days! :-)

    1. Glad that I am not the only one that suffers from PREPS!!! Mine has gotten so bad that sometimes I think it is permanent. ;-)

  2. PREPS!!! I love it!!

Also, I am very much an evening person but wouldn't call myself extroverted. I'm suspicious of that infographic.

    1. I am suspicious of the infographic, too! I think there are way more evening people out there than morning people, and it seems hard to believe that the majority of them would fall under those descriptions. But speaking of morning fun - are you up for running this Thursday morning? No pressure of course since I know how long it takes to recover from a marathon - but whenever you are ready! =)

    1. Thanks, Katie! I am sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some frustrations as of late, but these just mean that better times will be coming soon to make up for them! In the meantime, thanks again for hosting TTT - I am loving it. =)

  4. I had PREPS this weekend.... after not running. Woops!

Way to go on the 2 minute plank, that's awesome! The most I've ever done is a minute, and even that is pretty hard.

Is it possible to be neither a morning nor night person? I don't mind getting up early when I have to, but if given the chance, I'd almost always sleep in.

    1. I've had PREPS many times for no reason at all. Maybe in those instances we should just call it EPS, LOL.

I've been doing planks for a good two years as a result of physical therapy recommendation, so it's taken quite some time to work up to where I am at now. BUT - I am SO ENVIOUS of your pushup capabilities. I need to try to work on pushups but the motivation is tough. =(

I definitely think it's possible to be neither a morning nor night person! When I was in college, I was a late-afternoon person. =) You too?

    2. More like a late morning person - it takes me until 9 or 10 (and a lot of coffee!) to get going most days. And I think I fall into some of the night person traits, per that infographic. Erin was right to be suspicious of it.

Maybe I should do a plank challenge and you should do a push-up challenge! That may make me hate planks a little less.

    3. I like late mornings, too (at least until I start getting hungry for lunch and then fall into my after-lunch food coma, LOL). I definitely disagree with some of the night person traits, the person that came up with the infographic must be a morning person. ;)

That's a great idea for you to do a plank challenge and for me to do a push-up challenge! I'll have to get started tonight with my first pitiful attempts at standing wall-pushups. =D Btw - Shannon over at Running Survivor posted a plank challenge earlier this week:

To be honest, I think it's an aggressive challenge... but any progress made on these challenges is better than nothing, right?!?!?

  5. Hmmm...I'm definitely more of a night person. I guess I'm neurotic and depressed :) I love PREPS! Well, i just love pizza.

    1. I think 90% of students are night people by necessity! When I was in college I definitely had a much later schedule than I do now. I remember the days when waking up at 9:00 was so awful, but these days waking up at 9:00 is a blessing. =)

Woo hoo for pizza, with or without PREPS! =D

  6. So happy to see you again this weekend! I agree- we should hang out running soon - we'll have to plan that! I also love the Emergency Pizza -- I should keep a stock! I also like the picture on morning v/s evening people. I suppose I have a morning person personality after all!

    1. Lauren, it was so good to see you this past weekend and I am super excited to find a time to go running with you very soon! I am ALL about the Emergency Pizza. I usually keep at least 2 of them in my freezer but since I ate one over the weekend I got a replenishment from the grocery store last night. =) You do seem like a morning person to me!!!

    1. Yay, someone else who has EPS, too! =) Likewise, I have NEVER regretted eating any pizza, ever. I am an equal opportunity pizza eater. You too? =)

    1. PREPS and EPS are widespread epidemics for sure - and highly, highly contagious! Maybe I should be the founder for the EPS support group. "Hello, my name is Emily, and I eat way too much pizza." =D

  9. Wish we could have met up! I was there too. Congrats on your race too! Love PREPS... patent that! :)

    1. Nicole! I think I saw you and your husband on the course this past weekend. It was around mile 10, right near that big hill with the sign that said "It's a hill. Get over it." I think I heard you say something to him about checking the split at the next mile marker (in case you remember details like that!) Congrats to both you and he on your fantastic race, too!!!

  10. I want a racing break SO BAD. One more this weekend then the rest are easy after that. Phew. I need a no-pressure race schedule :)

    1. Racing definitely does get stressful when there are too many of them in a compressed timeframe. =( Glad that you'll be home-free after this weekend!

I would love to see your racing schedule!

    2. This is it! I am trying not to schedule anything else :)

    3. Oh wow! You've got some great ones on the list!!! Can't wait to see how they all go for you!!! And I don't know about you, but I've said many times that I was trying not to schedule anything else or buy any running shoes... but I have no self control. =D

    4. I just bought running shoes this week. They went down a bit in price ;) Sigh :)

    5. NEW RUNNING SHOES!?!?!?? What kind? The Asics Gel Cumulus 14s or 15s?

      Delete
    6. Just the 14s because they were a bit cheaper! ($80 instead of $110). ;)

    7. Pictures, please!!! =D And at some point I'd like to hear your thoughts on how the 14s compare to the 13s, in your experience.

    8. The are the cute lime/purple ones that inspired the colors for that thing my sister made my friends in TX! I will take a pic next time I have the older pair (yes, second time with this color) on.

You know, the 13s and 14s felt the same to me, thankfully! :) :) :)
