The search for satellites (Demotivational Monday #2)

This is my second week of participating in Rachel's Demotivational Monday linkup. Yes, I am participating late on Tuesday... but it is still an improvement from last week when I participated on Wednesday!!! :D

Here is my submission for the week. This was inspired by real-life occurrences.

Any time I am getting ready to run, I end up standing at a street corner waiting for my Garmin to locate a satellite. And every single time, I get hundreds, even thousands of people that walk past me during those very moments. I try to look nonchalant, of course, but inevitably they all look at me as if I am wearing an orange-flowered adult onesie with footie pajamas. Every single time.

"C'mon, satellites!!! Go, go, go, go go!!!"

  1. Yes! So frustrating. Mine always gets realllly close to finding satellites and then the progress bar drops back down. Grr!

    Thanks for participating!

    1. Mine, too! It's almost like it is purposely tormenting me... getting to about 99% and then holding it there for a few moments, only to suddenly fall backwards. Sigh.

Thanks again for hosting! I am loving reading all the submissions!

  2. I love these posts! And yes. I hate when I'm standing on a corner looking all awkward as the garmin attempts to find a satellite :)

    1. Glad you are enjoying the posts! You should join in on the festivities, I think it is quite fun to focus on demotivational topics! =D

There's gotta be a less awkward way to wait out the Garmin satellite-locating process... I've tried tying and retying my shoelaces and stretching. But it might look even worse to do that while you're staring at your Garmin, LOL.

  3. It's okay... because I participated on Tuesday too. RIGHT? RIGHT?!!! :D

LOL. Sigh, satellites. I have the most issues with them in the city. I am impressed when I get my watch to work AT ALL down there!

    1. RIGHT!!! There's a reason why Rachel has the linkup open until Sunday. =D

Argh, it is super frustrating to try to get satellites downtown - and even when you do, they are usually not very accurate. Once I was running through downtown and my Garmin told me that I did a 6:50 mile. That is CLEARLY not true, LOL. I can only dream of ever running a sub-7 mile!

  4. I sometimes think that touching a lamp post (or another metal pole) will somehow act as an antenna to acquire the satellites faster. So I pretend I am stretching against the lamp post.

    1. Ooooh... that is a fabulous idea! What a great way to kill two birds with one stone!!!! Or actually, that could be up to three birds with one stone: 1) Faster satellites, 2) Look sufficiently nonchalant, and 3) stretch!

  5. Hahahaha this is so true! Often, I need to stand in the middle of my street to get signal which is not a big deal at 5:30 AM but does look kind of funny. I swear I'm not an idiot just standing in the middle of the road!

    1. Same here! I definitely have to be cognizant of standing too close to clusters of buildings - but there really aren't many areas where we live that don't have lots of buildings nearby. Wide streets are a Garmin satellite blessing in the city! =D

  6. I think my doorman must wonder about me when I go out for a run and then just stand there staring at my watch. I've kind of given up and just run without worrying about it at this point! But it's still pretty frustrating.

    1. LOL, I hear you! The door staff at my building have seen me do plenty of things that probably look really weird to an outsider (e.g. when I do long runs, I usually store GU packets and my water bottle in my mailbox for easy retrieval). The Garmin thing really is the worst, though! Sigh.

  7. Good to know my Garmin is not alone in it's shenanigans!
I was the poster child for demotivation today. Maybe I'll share it tomorrow on Demotivation Thursday. Procrastination adds spice right?

    1. I seriously wonder if other GPS watches take as long to find a signal as Garmins do? It seems like a REALLY common problem!

Do share the details of your demotivation! I look forward to reading it tomorrow. And absolutely, procrastination adds spice - and I live a very spicy life. ;)

  8. I walk around in circles waiting for my Garmin like a dog chases it's tail. It's super cool.

    1. I hear you and have done similar once or twice! The question is... do you walk in circles clock-wise or counterclockwise? I always walk counterclockwise. =D
