Three Things Thursday - office sharks and more

1. It's all about the basics for ASICS
I recently heard that a new ASICS store is going to be opening up in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. The location is intriguing, as well - it will be located right across the street from the new Nike running store that just opened up a few weeks ago. Oooh, let the competition begin!

As I've mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of the Asics Gel Cumulus series. This store may or may not result in the addition of a few more members to my running shoe collection in the near future...

2. Leftover choices
In an attempt to improve my diet and eat more healthfully, I haven't had deep dish pizza in probably six months. Yes, you read that right. SIX MONTHS!!!

My deep-dish pizza hiatus ended up coming to a crashing halt this afternoon. My workplace had a lunchtime team meeting and someone decided to order Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza, salad, and cookies. Oh my goodness. I ate two pieces of pizza and could have kept going, but didn't want to eat myself sick.

In typical fashion, they ordered way too much food for the number of meeting attendees. Not to fear, though. Food in my office never goes to waste. We put the leftover food in the kitchen for people to help themselves.

As if they could smell the pizza coming from a mile away, people piled into the kitchen from every which way. The pizza was gone in about two seconds flat. It was like a shark-feeding but even bloodier and more aggressive!

Plenty of leftover salad was still available when I departed the office for the day, though. Go figure.

3. Decisions, decisions
After much debate, I am not going to be making my race costume debut at Disney this weekend. Maybe another time. I am, however, planning to wear an orange shirt (pictured here) with my pink-and-orange shorts (pictured here). This is a far cry from my usual black or grey shorts with a solid shirt - so I am making at least some progress, right?

I am also debating whether or not to take these lovable Disney characters along for the ride this weekend? On one hand, they would take up a lot of room in my bag... but on the other hand, it IS their hometown...

    1. You know, I did look for mouse ears at the race expo tonight... but I have heard many testaments that the ears do not stay put very well while running. =( Maybe Disney can look at designing runner's mouse ears that have, say, a chin strap in front and an elastic loop around the back of your head for further stability? =D

  2. What? No costume? Hahaha! I used to wear Asics until the sprained ankle during a race incident. After gimping in for 5 miles, I could never trust them again. Now I'm WANTING deep dish!

    1. Sadly, no costume this time. What it really comes down to is that I haven't had time to put anything together, let alone do any kind of training in it to make sure it is runnable. So sorry to hear about the sprained ankle - I have had an ankle injury in the past and it is AWFUL. And WOO HOO for deep dish pizza!!!!!!!

  3. Ooo! Asics store! That reminds me to tell you - I got a pair of Cumulues for $50 on Amazon! Still the old model ;) Ha ha ha. Me so cheap.

I bet that pizza was so good after a break from it!

Have a great time at Disney! I travel with a stuffed animal... that's normal... right?!

    1. Oh my goodness! What iteration of the Cumuluses did you get? The 14s? $50 is an INCREDIBLY good deal. I need to start amping up my mileage so I can retire my shoes more quickly and thereby be able to take more advantage of those kinds of sales. Seriously!

Thanks for the well wishes on my race! Btw, Adam did end up bringing Mickey along for the ride, hee hee. I think it is completely normal to travel with a stuffed animal! (Btw - I still remember when yours ended up in the bag at the front desk with the note describing what type of animal she is! )

    1. A Mickey Mouse temp tattoo! Now THAT is a GREAT idea. You have the best ideas when it comes to these types of things, Declan. You really do!

It is funny how when you have such easy access to certain local things, that you don't take advantage of them until guests come to visit, right? Case in point - I pretty much never go to Michigan Avenue unless I am entertaining out-of-towners!

  5. I only eat deep dish a few times a year (once usually is at work, since we have a big pizza party at some point every winter). I love it, but it's so rich and heavy that I just can't do it more often. But Lou's is my favorite, love their cornmeal crusts. I'm surprised by no one eating the salad though, I love Lou's salad! It has crispy little bits of pepperoni in it and everything. Mmmm...

    1. It is always nice when the office brings in deep dish for all to enjoy! I used to not be very discerning when it came to eating deep dish whenever I felt like it, which is NOT a good thing. So I've been trying to wean myself off of it and am now to the point where I feel it is too rich and heavy to eat all the time, as well. This IS a good thing!

I should have clarified that my workplace just ordered some basic vegetable-only salad (e.g. basically lettuce, cucumbers, and some tomatoes). It was by no means the Lou's salad, which I do agree is very tasty! If the Lou's salad had been left out, it would certainly have been gone quickly, too (though still not as quickly as the pizza itself. =D )
