Questions nobody asks - Part 2

Continuing this series of questions. My first set of responses is here.

9. If you could get back any article of clothing you once wore, what would it be?
Nostalgically I'd like to get back the running shoes I wore when I first became a runner. I achieved a lot of milestones in those shoes!

At the time, everyone wore white shoes trimmed with one color. I, on the other hand, had a pair of white Nikes trimmed in two different colors - reddish-orange and blue. I purchased them from a Nike Outlet store purely because they looked cool.

Sadly I couldn't find a picture of those shoes. Here is a pair which looks somewhat comparable:

10. If you could hire any actor to portray you in a movie, who would it be?
Kelly Hu. Besides being an actress and a fashion model, she's a runner! She grew up in Hawaii and she ran the Honolulu Marathon (one of my dream marathons)!
Kelly Hu
It isn't all decoration with Kelly, either. She also supports ecological movements and Asian American causes, both of which are very close to my heart.

11. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
I took piano and flute lessons as a young child through college. To this day I still love the piano. It is so versatile and so classic.

If I had to pick an additional instrument to learn, it would definitely be the trumpet. I love its brilliant, majestic, and powerful sound.

12. If you could hear anyone in history give a speech, who would it be?
I've never been a history buff, so this is the hockey fan in me coming out. I wish I could have seen Herb Brooks's pregame speech before the U.S. Hockey Team played the Soviets in the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Here is the movie version from Miracle, played by Kurt Russell:

(I imagine this dramatization was heavily toned down since Miracle is a Disney movie!)

13. If you could live in one city for the rest of your life, where would you live?
Chicago is and always will be my home. I love living here. Brutal winters aside, I'd be happy to stay here the rest of my life.

If I had to pick a different city, it would be Sydney, Australia. It has everything that I look for in a big city. It's beautiful, cosmopolitan, and diverse, with stunning architecture and biodiversity, temperate weather, great culture and history, and friendly people.

My everlasting thanks to Adam for proposing to me in Sydney! =)

14. If you could make any fictional character come to life, which would it be?
Stitch! He's so cute and funny!

Honorable mentions: Bugs Bunny, Snoopy, Mickey Mouse, and Figment.

15. When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween?
I dressed up as a vampire a few times. I've done the Mardi Gras masquerade theme. I've also dressed up as a tourist.

Your turn! I'd love to hear your responses to any or all of these questions!

    1. Yes! I'd love to share it! Will tell you all the details one of these days when we get together next. =)

  2. When I saw your first question, I thought the same thing about the shoes! My first official running shoes were Nike Air Pegasus. I wore them for years, and then Nike tweaked them and ruined it for me...

    1. Ahhh, the classic Air Pegasus! It is frustrating that shoe designers are always tweaking their shoes. I've had similar experiences with go-to shoes no longer working for me after a few iterations. =(

  3. Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten. Ya.

    1. This is my family. I found it all on my own. It's little, and broken, but still good. Yah. Still good.

  4. Haha! Love the tourist costume idea. I was obsessed with Wizard of Oz when I was little- so I was Dorothy twice and Glenda once. Then I was the fictional character "Linnea in Monet's Garden" because I was obsessed with the artist Claude Monet. No one knew who I was. Haha!

    1. What a great idea to dress up as Dorothy and Glenda!!! Love the idea of dressing up as Linnea, too. Your costumes were very sophisticated!!!

  5. Oh man, don't even get me started on costumes! LOL!

  6. I'm so old we wore those awful plastic masks with the rubber band around your head and your face would sweat like crazy. Ha!
I'd want back my first pair of Nike's as well. I got them when I was 16. They were bright yellow nylon with a turquoise swoosh and had a blue waffle bottom. I was running then, and my "easy" daydreamer pace was 8:00 miles. Wait, I want THAT back!

    1. I remember those plastic masks with the rubber bands!!! They would stick to your face, too!!! =D

Yellow and turquoise Nikes with a blue bottom - you were STYLIN! Oh gosh, if only I could ever be easy-daydreaming about an 8-minute mile, too. Ahhh, to be a teenager again (with a teenage metabolism). Sigh!

  7. I played trumpet from 5th grade through the end of HS - it was such a fun instrument to play! Also, the tourist thing makes me laugh. But now you need a huge ipad to take photos with :-P

    1. That is awesome that you played the trumpet! You are so right about the evolution of the cheesy tourist. It used to be the giant Poloroid cameras were the must-have accessory. Indeed, now you do need to be carrying around the iPad!

  8. Please tell me you had a fanny pack as part of your tourist costume! :D I'm not usually one to dress up for Halloween, but I'd seriously love to do something 90's inspired. It's when I grew up, so those years will always have a special place in my heart.

    1. Oh yes! The fanny pack was one of the requisite accessories for a tourist outfit! That, plus lots of maps, a giant camera, and a lanyard hanging from your neck. =D Yes on 90s-inspired costumes! I grew up in both the 80s and 90s and both eras have special places in my heart, too.

  9. The trumpet *is* the best instrument, if I do say so myself :) I played for 12 years! I still have my trumpet here in Chicago and take it out maybe once a year or so, but since I have roommates, I'm not all that inclined to play it very often!

    1. Wow! I think I remember you mentioning before that you played the trumpet. How awesome that you played for 12 years! It is too bad that you have roommates and can't play very often now. Likewise - I have a piano at home but I almost never touch it because I don't want to disturb all of my neighbors!

  10. I remember when the US hockey team beat the Soviets. The entire country was stunned, then for weeks afterwards was high on a patriotic buzz! Yes, it would be awesome to hear that speech.

    1. Have you seen "Miracle"? It is an incredible movie. I am guessing that it's been toned down a lot from reality since it's a Disney movie, but even so it is a very moving story. That U.S.-Soviet hockey game changed everything!!!

    2. Yes, I actually saw "Miracle" about six months ago. Besides being super inspiring, it is interesting to see what the coach went through to get the players he wanted, not necessarily the ones the USOC wanted.
