I've got a ton to share from the last few days! Let's do a photo-based recap today.
On Saturday morning, I attended a Windy City Bloggers brunch at DL Loft. Here are some snapshots from the event:

The event space was adorned with beautiful French-themed decor. |

After brunch, it was time for a double-hockey header. That afternoon, Adam and I watched the Penguins clinch a first-round playoff series win against the Rangers. The Pens look fantastic right now and I am absolutely thrilled to see them advance to the second round. Woo hoo!!!
Later that night, we had tickets to watch Blackhawks Game 6 against the Blues.

Over the years, I've been to games with extremely raucous crowds. This includes a Hawks-Kings playoff game where I thought everyone must have undergone intravenous caffeine consumption in advance for 72 hours straight. Even so, on this Saturday night the crowd's energy skyrocketed off the charts. The cheering, chanting, and singing were so deafeningly loud that I had to scream to communicate with Adam, even though he was sitting right next to me. The United Center's roof was in very real danger of blowing off.

After I got home post-victory, I remained fired up for several hours. It took me a really long time to unwind and fall asleep.
Unfortunately, the timing of my delirium wasn't great because I had made last-minute plans to run the Ravenswood 5K early the next morning! Go figure, right?! But there is no question that I wouldn't have traded the Blackhawks game for anything. Let's go Hawks!!!
On that note, let's move on to Sunday morning's Ravenswood 5K. The race definitely deserves its own post, as always. I am working on my recap right now. In the meantime, here's a post-race photo with some of my beloved fellow running bloggers:

Allright - one more thing to cap off the whirlwind weekend!
On Sunday night, Adam and I went to the UP Comedy Club to watch #DateMe: An OKCupid Experiment. The show is about an experiment where 38 "undateable dating profiles" were posted to see who would interact with them - with rollicking results!
Before the show, Adam and I had fun at the show's photo booth:
Check out Adam's killer abs!!! =D |
Here are a few snapshots:
After the show, I had the privilege of meeting Robyn Lynne Norris and Dana Robie. Both are cast members, and Robyn is the show's writer and creator. Those ladies are amazing comedic inspirations. Wow.

Now it's your turn! Tell me about your weekend adventures, whether that includes racing, training, eating, sleeping, or anything fun?

Fun and FULL weekend Em! You look stunning in that purple dress. That was my kind of Hawk's game! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Marcia!!! Oh yeah, that was my kind of Hawks game, too. Action-packed, dramatic, and a huge victory!!!
DeleteSounds like such a fun weekend!! I love that you were at that Blackhawks game! I cannot wait for tonight's game :) And I'm glad you enjoyed the show at UP - I've been eyeballing that one for awhile. Though usually everything at Second City is good, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Alexandra! It was a stroke of luck that Adam was able to get tickets for the game on Ticketmaster - when I tried myself, I got locked out! I am pumped for tonight's game, too. I think you would really, really enjoy the DateMe show! Likewise - I had been eyeing it for awhile, too, so was thrilled to be able to finally see it. You are right, though - you can't go wrong with ANY of the shows at any of the Second City theaters!
DeleteMy friends who are Stars fans are quite happy today. The Wild did make the game very entertaining and I knew my friends were all on edge. Twitter was quite funny with their reactions.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, since you are a Wings fan, I keep forgetting you live in Texas and are probably surrounded by Stars fans! That game yesterday was INSANE. The Wild threw in everything they had and to come within mere millimeters of getting there? BRUTAL!!!
DeleteWhat a weekend!! Love your dress at the bloggers brunch! Decorate your own doughnuts? How fun! Hubby was happy the Blackhawks won! So cool you guys were there. Congrats on your 5K PR!! Improv is so fun to watch! Amazing how they can come up with things on the fly!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sharon! Isn't the doughnut-decorating idea clever? I think everyone always enjoys "make your own" bars, whether it be frozen yogurt, sundaes, mashed potatoes, whatever. It's so fun! Hooray for the Blackhawks and here is hoping and praying for a big win tonight!!! Yes - improv artists are creative geniuses in the truest sense of the word!!!
DeleteSounds like you had a GREAT weekend! Loved all the photos!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Michelle!!! Glad you like the photos - and sometimes it's so much easier to share experiences in photo form than in words, yes?
DeleteThank you so much, Karen!!! The improv booth photo had some super funny and clever props, LOL. Kudos to comedic artists for coming up with such unique ways to keep the festivities so fun!!! I plan to post my 5K recap tomorrow. =)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Kelly! I'm still trying to perfect my 5K strategy - but I've learned a lot from one of my master race strategy friends, Pete. In short, what worked was to focus on running a negative split, and then to only go all out (i.e. running at puke-speed) in about the last half-mile or so. I've always crashed and burned in the past because I've started out at puke speed then died in Mile 2! I hope you are able to beat your 5K from 2006 very soon, too!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous on that dress!
ReplyDeleteYums! I wouldn't be able to decorate a donut, I would just eat it!!
Congratulations on the new 5K PR!!
Thank you so much, Ana! LOL on the donut, I am with you. I've often said restaurants make their dishes so beautiful just for us to eat them - so that was a consolation if my self-decorated donut didn't turn out well. Just eat the evidence, hee hee.
DeleteCongratulations on Gettysburg!!! I am dying to read your recap!!!
Was your profile: "person with too many cats"?! Ha, ha. Anyway, that Hawks game must've been super exciting. I can hardly wait 'til they are in the finals so I can jump on the bandwagon and watch some games! :) Congrats again on the PR, the Ravenswood Run has a lot of turns and speed bumps so that's impressive. Luckily the Hawks won going away and there was no OT! :)
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOL, the DateMe show created a fictional dating profile of someone whose entire focus was on cats! =D The Hawks game was incredible - it was the loudest I'd ever heard the UC by far. I am looking forward to you jumping on the bandwagon and watching games, too! Congratulations to you too on PRing at Ravenswood - you are knocking it out of the ballpark with your PR hat tricking!!! SO IMPRESSIVE!
DeleteNice work on your 5K! Can't wait to read about that race.
ReplyDeleteYour purple and black dress is FANTASTIC! Who is the designer and where did you get it?!
Thanks so much, Natalie!!! How are you enjoying life with your new addition to the family!?!?!?!?
DeleteThe purple dress is by Vince Camuto and I got it from Macy's early last fall. Unfortunately I just looked on their site and it's no longer listed. =( But I'll keep an eye out and see if I can still find it online somewhere else - will let you know!
Family life is good! I'm adjusting still to the 3am feeding calls, but I've been blessed with a very mellow baby, so I'm lucky. He's even already registered for his first 5K this July - LOL!
DeleteSo happy for you, Natalie! OMG - what 5K in July did Quinn register for?!?!? Are you going to start a Quinn running blog at the tender age of 4 months??? =D
DeletePerhaps! wait and see ...
DeleteOooooh, the plot thickens!!! =D
DeleteThat is a whirlwind of a busy weekend! A braid bar? I'd love that. I can't do my own! I'm so impressed you've taken improv classes. I didn't get that gene (my sister did). It takes me a while... I have to say, I've never seen a hockey game. We don't understand what ice is in these parts, you know. Congratulations on your 5k PR. I can't wait to hear about it. Thanks for linking with us Emily!
ReplyDeleteThanks HoHo! I could use some practice braiding, too. I bet you have better improv genes than you give yourself credit for. =) You may not have hockey by you, but you've got some killer college football! THAT is something we don't have much of in Chicago! Thanks for co-hosting the link-up, as always!!!
DeleteCongrats on your PR!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Maggie!!!
DeleteWowza, what a weekend! I CANNOT believe you had tickets to Saturday's game!! That must've been such an insane experience. And then ran Ravenswood the next day! I missed the end of the game because of the race, and I wasn't even AT the game. Congrats on your PR - can't wait to hear more about how it went for you!
ReplyDeleteBethany @ Accidental Intentions
Thank you, Bethany!!! Adam lucked out on getting the tickets when they were released on Ticketmaster (I didn't have the same luck, unfortunately). I was very fortunate to attend the game but it really did make for a rough wake-up call the next morning! I am bummed to have missed you at the race! I was telling Erin that I was looking for you and kept seeing women that looked like you, but weren't you. Did you have a good experience? I can't wait to read your recap, too!!!
DeleteYou did have an action packed weekend for sure! I'm so jealous you have so many blogger opportunities in your area! This looks like so much fun! A braid bar!?! No way how fun is that!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a hockey game, ever. I know I really do need to fix that! The comedy club also sound like a lot of fun, my husband would so love this!
Thank you so much, Tricia! The Windy City Bloggers group in Chicago offers some really amazing events - I am very blessed to be a part of the group! YES on going to see a hockey game, especially in the cities where the fanbase is strong. It's an awesome experience! If you come to Chicago, we'll put hockey plus a comedy club on the list of things to do. =) Thanks again for cohosting the link-up with HoHo!
