Three Things Thursday - Travel edition

4-day workweeks are awesome. I vote that we all start a progressive movement towards having 3-day weekends every weekend. Who's in?
In the meantime, it's already time to link up with Amanda's Thinking Out Loud Thursdays!

I am going through an extremely busy stretch at work, so we're going to keep things very short today.

1. My travel bug - especially my international travel bug - has gone from biting me to downright devouring me alive. Every time I turn around, I see or hear about another friend traveling to some amazing vacation destination. I seriously can't remember any stretch of time in the past where it seemed more like the whole world was on vacation except me. Sigh.
2. I'm interviewing for Global Entry next Friday. Maybe this will help the travel bug or maybe it'll make it even worse? My money is on the latter (both literally and figuratively). In the meantime, I need to research how to "prepare" for my Global Entry interview. Any suggestions from folks who have been through it before?
3. International destinations aside, I am counting down the hours until I can depart for Saugatuck tomorrow. Additionally, I had mentioned both here and here how I've been wanting to go to Memphis. Yesterday, I finally snagged decent airfare for decent flight times - so Adam and I will be heading there for a weekend next month. I am super excited. Look out Graceland and Beale Street, here I come!

  1. What is Global Entry? Next week I have an appointment for TSA Pre-Check.

I've never been to Memphis (only to Nashville) but would like to.

    1. Global Entry is similar to TSA Pre-check, but Global Entry also expedites the U.S. customs process upon re-entering the country. Here's an article that talks about the difference between the two:

I've only been to Nashville, too! So far Nashville is the only part of Tennessee I've ever visited!

  2. I'm right there with you that it feels like everyone is on vacation except me! Hope you can satisfy your travel itch soon!! :)

    1. Isn't it the worst feeling? Every time I log into social media I see pictures of someone else lounging on the beach with a frosty drink in hand, et al. Sigh! I hope you can satisfy your travel itch soon, too!!!

  3. I don't have a vacation planned this summer, and it's weird. I know I'll need a break at some point, but I don't know when that will be. Hopefully I can make it through the heat without cracking.

  4. Global Entry interviews are a piece of cake! I was just asked why I went to a few countries and a few other minor questions and I was done. They already have done a full check on you based on your initial application so the interview is more of a formality.

    1. Ahhh - this is really helpful to know! I might go back and look at my list of countries-visited so they're fresh in my mind. Thanks very much, Nina!!!

  5. 4 days weeks are the BEST IN THE WORLD!

I'm always so jealous of all your trips! Have an excellent vacation!

Good luck with your interview! I have no idea what that entails, but I'm sure you will do fantastic!

    1. I have to believe almost everyone would enjoy 4-day weeks every week, yes? Thank you so much, Ana - much appreciate your confidence in me!!! And congratulations again on your 10K PR - you rocked it out!!!

  6. I actually only have a 3 day week this week! Tues, Wednesday and Friday but even though I was approved to have Sunday off I might end up working it anyways since they haven't found anyone to cover and my plans fell through. I wish it were easier for me to travel, the way I have to ask for time off from work makes it difficult. Have fun in Michigan!!

    1. A 3-day workweek would be heavenly! You work so many weekends and holidays that I can imagine your schedule gets very erratic. You certainly deserve the time off when you can get it!!! I hope you don't have to work on Sunday - hopefully someone will be able to cover! Thanks Kayla!

  7. I think whoever developed the "work week" had it all wrong. There are 7 days in a week so we should only work half those days, right? I know 7 can't equally be divided in half so well just go with 3!

Good luck in your interview. After my vacation this summer I kind of squashed my travel bug. Traveling is a lot of work and stress...lol

    1. I completely agree with a 3-day week! At the very least, maybe we can work 3 days one week, 4 days the next, so we have a perfect half-way split. I could learn to live with that. =)

Thank you so much! Traveling is a lot of work and stress, indeed... but when you haven't done it in awhile you forget about that part. =)

  8. I only work 3 days this week, and is it ever nice!

I have to get a passport. Can you believe I don't have one?

    1. Ahhhh, enjoy only working 3 days this week! I know you work a lot of crazy shifts, so you definitely deserve the time off when you get it!

YES - no time like the present to get a passport!!! The sooner the better!

  9. Karen, I am so with you on a year-long sabbatical. I've always said that a 2-week vacation isn't nearly long enough - we need a minimum 6-month vacation, yes? I want to be Australian and do a walkabout where I travel for a very extended period of time. Sigh.

Thanks Karen! I hope you make it to Memphis soon, too!!!

  10. Have fun in MI this weekend! I love that you guys travel as much as you do. I don't really have a travel buddy so I don't get to as many places as I'd like. I admittedly not very adventurous on my own but will happily tag along with someone else on their adventure :-)

    1. Thanks Erin! If you have any places you'd like to take a jaunt, I am always up for an adventure, too! If you need a travel buddy, I'd totally be up to interview for the role. =D On that note, I know we'd talked about possibly running a marathon relay, why don't we get that back on the list as a racecation possibility!!!
