Disney storytelling

Time to link up with Deb's Wordless Wednesday Disney photo hop.
Focused on the Magic
The theme for this week is "Storytelling."

The first thing I thought of was Disney's Hollywood Studios. I love old-Hollywood glamour and the classic, iconic movies that still resonate with viewers to this day. At their core, movies are all about telling stories!

Speaking of Hollywood Studios, one of the most unique dining experiences I've ever had was at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. It's a 50s-style eatery set up like an outdoor drive-in theater. You sit inside a classic car-shaped booth and get to watch old black-and-white movie clips while eating. It is so much fun!

Here are a few snapshots from our last visit:

"I do not make films primarily for children.
I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty."
- Walt Disney

What are some of your favorite classic movies? Favorite Disney dining experiences?

  1. Sci-Fi is a favorite of ours! Disney puts as much theming effort into their restaurants as they do their rides. They are all great experiences. San Angel Inn and Restaurant Marrakesh (Epcot) are two other favorites. My husband loves the Cobb salad at Brown Derby...but I'm really not a fan.

    1. You are absolutely right - the restaurants are true masterpieces of the Disney Imagineers, just as much as everything else in the parks! I love Restaurant Marrakesh, too. I've never dined at San Angel Inn but the atmosphere is incredible. I've heard a lot about the Cobb salad at Brown Derby but I've never had the chance to try it, myself! There are SO many places to pick from. Sigh!

  2. What a great theme for this restaurant! My favorite themed restaurant (and story) in HS is the Brown Derby. I love vintage Hollywood and their delicious Cobb Salad, yum!

    1. Thanks Deb! Ooooh, another vote for the Brown Derby and their Cobb Salad! I've never been there but consistently hear great things about it. Note to self for my next visit to Hollywood Studios!

  3. I really enjoy sci fi and have been several times because of the atmosphere. However, I realize I don't really enjoy the variety of food there so have been trying to branch out and try other things!

    1. Oh my goodness, there are SO many choices at Disney! It's a venerable eating paradise! It's so hard because you find restaurants that you LOVE, and want to keep going back to those... but then there are a wealth of other options to experiment with. It's always a tossup. =)

  4. Don't laugh--well, ok, you can--but when the boys were little we watched the original Batman almost every weekend, alternating with PeeWee's Big Adventure. I don't know if those count as classics, but they crack me up every time. I also love The Sound of Music. "The hills are alive..."

    1. I used to watch the original Batman, too! I would hum the theme song all day long and drive people nuts. =) The Sound of Music is such a classic! I just watched it a month or two ago for the first time as an adult. I was surprised at how much depth there is to the story that I didn't understand as a child. Julie Andrews is timeless!!!

  6. Ah yes, Sci Fi is super fun to eat at. Great shots - especially as now I think on it, I don't have any photo's from inside myself.

Ah well, always good to have a reason to go back, right? I mean, it's almost like I need an excuse to go back for something like, oh I don't know - the yummy milkshakes, haha!

Thanks so much for sharing your photos :)

    1. OMG - those milkshakes! When I was there, it was in the fall and they had pumpkin pie spice milkshakes as a seasonal special. SO DELICIOUS. Those shakes by themselves are reason to go back. =D
